Port Elizabeth Airport is located within the boundaries of Port Elizabeth, 5km to the west of the Central Business District.

Many visitors to Port Elizabeth go to Bayworld, one of the city's major tourist attractions. It is located on Marine Drive on the beachfront at Humewood and comprises the Museum, Oceanarium, Snake Park and Number 7 Castle Hill Museum. Bayworld aims to promote a greater awareness of the need for conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of South Africa. The main museum could keep you occupied for hours. Some of the exhibits include a 15m skelton of the last southern right whale harpooned in Algoa Bay, a life-sized reconstruction of a giant prehistoric dinosaur known as Algoasaurus and a 5m bronze canon dated to 1640. The Oceanarium have dolphin and seal presentations taking place daily, an underwater observation area, dolphin research area and many other tanks housing smaller fish, sharks and stingrays. The Snake Park also have daily demonstrations. The Park is home to a wide variety of reptiles including snakes, tortoises and crocodiles.
For the water sport enthusiast, Port Elizabeth has everything you could wish for. Algoa Bay has 40km of superb beaches which provide a sheltered environment for swimming, surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing and boardsailing. The world boardsailing championships and an annual Splash Festival are held at Hobie Beach, which is closest to the city. Sea temperatures can range from 23°C in summer to a minimum of 16°C in winter.
Hiring a car in Port Elizabeth will also afford you the opportunity to explore the surrounding area. The Shamwari Game Reserve is the southernmost, Big Game, private reserve in Africa. It's approximately an hours drive from Port Elizabeth and is a lovely destination to drive to. There is also accommodation at the reserve and a spa to relax in.
